ARTICLE: LOOKING BACK AT THE 2014 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RACE
Team AMSOIL marked a significant milestone with a dominant performance at the UIM/SBI Offshore World Championships in Key West, Florida. Arriving early in the first week, the team set up base at the Truman Annex area of the island, joining over 50 other offshore race teams for this intense, week-long event in 2014.

The meticulous preparations and extensive testing paid off in the traditionally challenging waters of Key West. When the race began, the Team seized an early lead and held it to the end, finishing almost a minute ahead of second-placed Popeye’s racing.

However, the race presented rougher conditions. Despite a late start, the Team maintained a close chase on Team Popeye’s, who managed to secure an early lead. Despite the Team posting faster lap times, Popeye’s managed to finish just three seconds ahead. Nevertheless, their aggregate performance ensured they held the overall lead on time and speed.
​
The event also provided a unique opportunity for fans to engage with their favorite teams. The Team participated in an offshore boat parade in downtown Key West, selling team merchandise and interacting with enthusiastic fans.

With the Team and Popeye’s evenly matched from earlier races, it was the ultimate decider. The Team spent all day preparing, adjusting prop and gear ratios to ensure optimal performance. The conditions were challenging, but Team AMSOIL pulled ahead early on. After a suspense-filled race, Popeye’s boat capsized, leaving the Team to carefully complete the race and secure the UIM/SBI Super Cat class championship.
